  • 1 cupfresh pineapple, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cupwater
  • 1/4 cupwhite vinegar
  • 1/4 cuphoney
  • 2 tablespoonssoy sauce
  • 1 tablespoonfresh ginger, minced
  • 2garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoonscornstarch
  • 2 tablespoonswater (additional for cornstarch)
  • 1 teaspoonred chili flakes (adjust based on heat preference)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In asaucepanover medium heat, combine pineapple, 1/2 cup water, vinegar,honey, soy sauce, ginger, and garlic. Bring to a simmer.
  2. Let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes or until the pineapple is tender.
  3. In a small bowl, dissolve cornstarch in 2 tablespoons of water and stir into the simmering sauce.
  4. Add chili flakes and salt. Simmer for another 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.

Notes

For a smoother sauce, blend before cooling.
Adjust the chili flakes to increase or decrease the heat to suit your taste.
The sauce can be refrigerated for up to a week or frozen for up to three months.
